France denounces Taliban attack on Afghan parliament

Xinhua, June 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

France condemned the Taliban's attack on Afghanistan parliament and reiterated its support to promote democracy in Kabul, a government official said on Monday.

At an electronic press briefing, Romain Nadal, the French foreign ministry's spokesman, stressed Paris' solidarity with Afghan authorities and people in their fight against terrorism.

"We reaffirm our support for democracy and the rule of law in Afghanistan," he added.

Earlier on Monday, a group of Taliban bombers stormed the parliament building when a session was going on to consider a new defense minister.

Afghan interior officials said all the attackers were killed in a standoff that lasted several hours.

A woman and a child were killed and several others were wounded during the assault, according to media reports. Endit
