Uganda turns focus to 2015 Africa Netball Cup

Xinhua, June 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

After an impressive performance in South Africa, Uganda's national netball team has turned its focus to the 2015 Africa Netball Cup slated for June 27 to July 3 in Gaborone, Botswana.

"We had four good games in the Diamond Challenge Cup in South Africa and need to use the few days to correct certain things before traveling to Botswana," She Cranes head coach Fred Mugerwa told Xinhua on Sunday as the team returned from South Africa.

The She Cranes returned with a bronze medal after defeating Zambia in the play-off, while hosts South Africa stopped Malawi in the final.

"This tournament presented us with top class action and although we managed two wins from four games, I think we have learnt a lot and know what to correct," added Mugerwa.

South Africa's Netball Federation arranged the Diamond Challenge Cup in Durban to help Africa's four representatives at the 2015 World Cup to take place in Australia to prepare well and gauge their readiness.

Susan Nowell Anek Ongom, the president of the Uganda Netball Federation said despite the two losses to South Africa and Malawi, her team had put up a good show and will be a much better team for the Africa Netball Cup in Botswana and the World Cup.

The countries expected to take part in the 2015 Africa Netball Cup include Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya, Swaziland, Tanzania and South Africa.

Namibia who were originally meant to host the event but withdrew late last month will miss the event. Endi
