Ten people have been confirmed dead after gunmen stormed a beer hall in broad daylight in northern Mexico on Friday.

The incident took place in the Garcia suburb of the industrial city of Monterrey. Two vehicles with several armed men arrived at a Corona warehouse where beer is sold around 14:20 local time ( 1920 GMT), according to local media El Norte. (Mexico-Shootout)

UNITED NATIONS -- The UN General Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution to decide that International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict will be observed on June 19 each year in a bid to boost the global fight against the horrors faced by women and girls in zones of conflict worldwide.

"This international day is a victory for all the survivors who stay too often silent," Leila Zerrougui, the UN special representative for children and armed conflict, said at a plenary meeting of the 193-member General Assembly. (UN-Sexual Violence)

GENEVA -- United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said the UN-brokered peace talks on Yemen ended Friday without reaching an agreement but he believed a ceasefire could be achieved in future talks.

Ahmed stressed that though the talks which started Monday were of a preliminary nature, "there is no doubt that there is ground ready to declare a ceasefire accompanied by a withdrawal." (Switzerland-UN-Yemen-peace talks)

WINDHOEK -- Namibian President Hage Geingob on Friday praised a Chinese company for providing scholarships for students studying medicine in China.
