Namibian president hails Chinese scholarship for medical students

Xinhua, June 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Namibian President Hage Geingob on Friday praised a Chinese company for providing scholarships for students studying medicine in China.

Geingob made the remarks after the Chinese-owned Sun Investment Group awarded six scholarships to Namibian students who will soon depart for China.

The six Namibian students will join 28 others currently in China sponsored through the Namibia China Loving Foundation, a charity administered by Sun Investment Group headed by Jack Huang.

Geingob hailed the excellent bilateral relations between Namibia and China.

Geingob also called on other multinational companies operating in Namibia to emulate the good example set by Sun Investment Group.

"I challenge them to come and do the same," said Geingob.

It costs 400,000 RMB (about 65,570 U.S. dollars) to pay for insurance, tuition and other costs for each of the six students. The scholarship will cover the return air tickets from China to Namibia of the students for every two academic years.

Sun Investment Group has so far spent in excess of 14 million Namibian dollars (1.1 million dollars) to pay for the studies of these Namibian students. Endi
