Obama to visit Ethiopia, AU headquarters in late July

Xinhua, June 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Barack Obama will travel to Ethiopia in late July for bilateral meetings with the Ethiopian government and the leaders of the African Union, the White House said on Friday.

It will be the first visit of a sitting U.S. President to Ethiopia and to the African Union headquarters, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.

The visit underscores "our efforts to work with the countries and citizens of sub-Saharan Africa to accelerate economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions, and improve security," Earnest said.

This visit will follow Obama's travel to Kenya, where he will attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit. Endite
