World No. 2 Petra Zublasing gifted Italy its first shooting gold at the inaugural European Games in Baku on Friday morning, according to local media.

Zublasing blew away her rivals and set the world record points for a women's 50m rifle 3 positions final, and finished a remarkable 10.1 points ahead of silver medallist Laurence Brize of France.

Olivia Hofmann of Austria collected the bronze.

Zublasing's husband Niccolo Campriani, who won silver in Tuesday's 10m air rifle, was in the crowd to watch the competition.

The Italians have been a couple for six years and will team up in the 10m mixed team air rifle event next Monday.

The 2015 Baku European Games features more than 6,000 athletes from 50 European countries and regions competing in 20 sports. Endi
