Chairperson of Myanmar's National League for Democracy (NLD) Aung San Suu Kyi on Friday stressed the need for Myanmar not to be isolated from the world, calling its citizens to have global view.

On the occasion of her 70th birthday celebration, Suu Kyi, who is also Chairperson of the Committee for Rule of Law and Tranquillity of the House of Representatives (Lower House), said Myanmar's independence has experienced 68 years and it is time for the citizens to assess the country's status in terms of living standard over what stage has reached and what stage will be attained in the future.

This year is a very important year as the general election is to take place, she said, stressing the importance for the election to produce correct result to decide the destiny of the country in many years ahead.

She enjoyed her birthday celebration at her office at the parliament on the sidelines of the parliament session in Nay Pyi Taw.

She was released from house arrest on Nov. 13, 2010 and resumed her political career becoming a parliamentarian by winning the April by-election in 2012.

Her NLD party, established in September 1988 after the previous military's take-over of the state power, regained legal party registration on Jan. 5, 2012. Endite
