Tokyo stocks ended 0.92 percent higher on Friday as investors went bargain hunting after three straight sessions of decline, with sentiment aided by the U.S. dollar's appreciation against the yen.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 183.42 points, from Thursday at 20,174.24. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 14.35 points, or 0.89 percent, to 1,631.01.
The turnover was 2,961.03 billion yen (about 24.08 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese shares nosedived on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 6.42 percent to finish at 4,478.36 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index lost 6.03 percent to close at 15, 725.47 points.
The major Shanghai index dived by 13 percent from the previous week, the biggest weekly drop in seven years. Nearly one thousand shares on the two bourses slumped by the daily limit of 10 percent.
Combined turnover for the two bourses shrank to 1.29 trillion yuan (210.23 billion U.S. dollars) from Thursday's 1.5 trillion yuan.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks rose 65.87 points, or 0.25 percent, to close on Friday at 26,760.53 points.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,701.72 and 27, 011.95. Turnover totaled 140.61 billion HK dollars (18.14 billion U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Friday.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 5. 08 points, or 0.25 percent, to 2,046.96 at the close. Trading volume stood at 394.1 million shares worth 5.57 trillion won (5 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.08 percent lower on Friday.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 5.69 points to 7601.17. The all-share index went down by 0.79 points, or 0.02 percent, to 4,351.39.
Trading volume reached 913 million shares worth 8.61 billion pesos (191.3 million U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Friday down 1.70 percent against the previous trading day.
The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 23.72 points to 1,375.39. A total of 33,558 shares worth about 237 million Lao kip (about 29,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed higher Friday with the weighted index up 28.54 points, or 0.31 percent, to close at 9, 218.37, according to news reaching here from Taipei.
Turnover totaled 81.54 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.63 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian market rallied 1.3 percent in broad- based gains on Friday's trade, clawing back Thursday's losses to end the volatile week in positive territory.
The local market tested the 5600-point threshold on Friday, with the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index lifting 1.31 percent to 5597 points, while the broader All Ordinaries rallied 1.25 percent to 5, 591.5 points.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 584.7 points on Friday, up 4.35 points, or 0.75 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.
About 201.253 million shares worth 3.500 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (161.51 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,721.77 up 3.65 points or 0.21 percent, and the Emas was at 11,906.81 up 19.39 points or 0.16 percent.
Turnover increased to 1.72 billion shares valued at 2.42 billion ringgit Malaysia (646.02 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.45 billion shares valued at 1.97 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 530.28 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday.
