Ukraine's grain export hits record high

Xinhua, June 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ukraine has exported about 33.5 million tons of grain in the 2014-2015 marketing year, posting a new record, Agriculture Minister Olexiy Pavlenko said Wednesday.

"Our grain exports reached a record high of 33.494 million tons, which significantly exceeded the previous record of 32.3 million tons," Pavlenko told a Cabinet meeting.

The minister said Ukraine has a potential to further boost its shipments of grain overseas thanks to positive harvest forecasts and abundant carry-over stocks that are now 3.5 million tons more than that in the same period of the previous year.

At the start of the the current marketing season on July 1, 2014, the country's carry-over stocks stood at 7 million tons of cereals.

The Agriculture Ministry forecast that the country will harvest at least 55 million tons of grain in 2015, while the annual domestic consumption is estimated at 28.1 million tons. Endi
