Most Ukrainians see peace in Donbas as top priority: poll

Xinhua, June 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Over half Ukrainians are considering the resolution of the conflict in the country's eastern regions, locally known as Donbas, as a top priority for the government, an opinion poll showed Wednesday.

The poll, conducted by the Kiev-based International Institute of Sociology, found that 52.9 percent of the respondents believed that establishing a long-lasting peace in Donetsk and Lugansk regions are more important than resolving other challenges facing the country.

At the same time, 17.3 percent of respondents said that the government should prioritize reducing corruption, while 8.1 percent said that strengthening national defense should be the country's top goal, the poll showed.

The list of priorities for the surveyed Ukrainians also included improvement of business environment, health care and education services and implementation of decentralization reform.

The nationwide survey was conducted from May 12 to June 5 among 2,022 people with a margin of error of less than 2.3 percent. Endi
