World's renowned cyclist to lead 1,500km race in Vietnam

British ultra-cyclist Mike Hall will return to Vietnam to take part in "Cycle a Difference 2015" journey, leading a 1,500-km race, local radio station Voice of Vietnam reported Wednesday.

UK Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Douglas Barnes, made the announcement at a launch ceremony in the city on Wednesday. Mike Hall will lead the 1,500-km race from the northern province of Lao Cai to the central city of Da Nang in November.

Mike Hall made "round the world cycle" record in 2012. He rode 18,000 miles through 20 countries and four continents in 92 days to beat the previous world record for circumnavigating the globe on a bicycle by nearly two weeks.

In Vietnam, he will be accompanied by Juliana Buhring who is a British-German ultra-endurance cyclist and writer. In December 2012, she set the first Guinness World Record as the Fastest Woman to Circumnavigate the Globe by Bike, riding over 29,000 km in a total time of 152 days (144 actual days in the saddle).

UK-based charity Newborns Vietnam organizes the "Cycle a Difference" event to raise funds for saving babies from their first breath. It has so far raised more than 450,000 U.S. dollars. Endit
