Construction of border-based Thai industrial estates to be quickened

Xinhua, June 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thailand is speeding up the planned construction of industrial estates inside several special economic zones which share border with neighboring states, said a senior government official on Tuesday.

According to Kasemsant Jinnavaso, the undersecretary of the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the construction of the industrial estates to facilitate manufacturing factories for export goods will be sped up in those special economic zones including:

Tak (Mae Sot district) and Chiang Rai special economic zones in northern Thailand which share border with Myanmar.

Kanchanaburi special economic zone in the western region of the country which shares border with Myanmar.

Nong Khai, Mukdaharn and Nakorn Panom special economic zones in the northeastern region which share border with Laos.

Srakeow and Trat special economic zones in the eastern region which share border with Cambodia.

Songkla and Narathivat special economic zones in the southern region which share border with Malaysia.

The ministerial undersecretary said the provincial authorities will speed up procedures for the construction of those industrial estates where varied goods will be produced and delivered across the border to the respective neighboring countries.

Instead of building such manufacturing factories in those neighboring states, they may be located in Thailand which could potentially become a manufacturing hub in the Southeast Asian region, apart from being medical, logistical and aviation hubs, he said.

Initial stages of construction of the industrial estates inside those border-based special economic zones are expected within the latter part of this year, he said. Endi
