Palmeiras name Marcelo Oliveira as new coach

Xinhua, June 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Former Cruzeiro coach Marcelo Oliveira has agreed to join Palmeiras until the end of 2016, the Brazilian club said on Monday.

Oliveira was due to be officially presented to the media at the club's Sao Paulo headquarters on Tuesday, Palmeiras said in a statement on their website.

His signing comes six days after Palmeiras sacked Oswaldo de Oliveira due to poor results.

Oliveira led Cruzeiro to consecutive league titles in the past two seasons before being dismissed earlier this month after their Copa Libertadores quarterfinal loss to River Plate.

The 60-year-old's first game in charge of Palmeiras will be against Gremio in Porto Alegre on Saturday. Endi
