Cirque du Soleil to bring Avatar-themed show to China

Canadian entertainment company Cirque du Soleil will bring an Avatar-inspired show to China in 2017, according to its CEO Daniel Lamarre.

The Avatar show, Toruk-The First Flight, is coming to China with the help of Fosun, a Chinese conglomerate that, along with U.S. private equity fund TPG, purchased a majority stake in Cirque du Soleil earlier this year .

James Cameron, who directed Hollywood blockbuster Avatar that made 1.38 billion yuan (225 million U.S. dollars) in China in 2010, is involved in creating "Toruk."

Cirque du Soleil plans to open an office in Shanghai in three months. It will open a permanent 1,400-seat theater in the eastern city of Hangzhou in early 2018, the company said on Monday.

Established in 1984, Cirque du Soleil is the largest theater company in the world with 4,000 employees worldwide. Close to 15 million people saw the Cirque show in 2014, according to its website. Endi
