Canada draw with Netherlands 1-1 to rank first in Group A

Canada tied the Netherlands 1-1 here on Monday at the FIFA Women's World Cup, which ensured the progress to the second stage for the host.

Ashley Lawrence's goal in the 10th minute gave the Canadians an early lead, but the Netherlands were not to be denied and substitute Van De Ven made the equalizer in the 87th minute. Van De ven received the ball in a counter-attack and her powerful shot found the net.

The Netherlands have to wait for the results of other groups, hoping to enter the round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed finishers.

Canada's next opponent will be a third-best from Group C or D or E, they will fight for the seats of last 8 in Vancouver on June 21. Endi
