In a breath-taking final, the defending champion United States edged Australia 8-7 to take the title at the FINA Women's Water Polo World League Super Final 2015 at the Oriental Sports Center here on Sunday.

The United States started strong for a 6-2 lead and never looked back, winning its second crown in a row by scoring 6-2, 1-3, 0-0, 1-2.

"I am not satisfied with the final. It is a disatisfied win. I give big credit to Australia that they played hard, much harder than us. It is always difficult to play with Australia. We have a great rivalry and great respect of each other," said US head coach Adam Krikorian.

In the bronze-medal battle, the Netherlands scored first and China made it 1-1 soon in the first quarter. China found the gates three times before the Netherlands took full control by earning three goals apiece in the next three quarters for the 10-5 victory.

"We were fresh into the Super Final and now we are seniors by learning from each games. Our girls did very well today but they are too tired that caused two key players injured," said Recardo Azevedo, head coach of the Chinese team.

Russia trounced Canada 16-8 (2-1, 4-4, 7-1, 3-2) to finish fifth while Italy romped Brazil 11-2 (0-0, 3-0, 2-1, 6-1) to place 7th.

The eight best women's teams in the world earned the tickets for the World League Super Final after a long and tough qualification which started in Autumn 2014 with the European preliminaries and the Intercontinental tournament in Auckland, New Zealand in April 2015. Endi
