Xinhua, June 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Some four civilians have been killed while four others wounded during an armed clash in western Afghan province of Herat, an official said on Sunday.

"Four dead and four injured civilians were admitted to Herat Regional Hospital late on Saturday night," Raffiq Shirzai, a provincial health media relation official, told Xinhua.

The victims were caught in a cross firing during a clash between security forces and militants in Shindand district late on Saturday, the official said, adding that "it was not known which side was responsible for inflecting the casualties on the non- combatants."

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since mid-April when the militant group launched a yearly rebel offensive against security forces.

In the first four months of 2015, more than 970 civilians were killed and more than 1,960 others wounded in conflicts and Taliban- led insurgency which showed a 16 percent increase over the same period last year, according to official figures released by the UN mission in the country. Endi
