Xinhua, June 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

A district governor was killed along with three people after a bomb struck his official vehicle in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province on Sunday, an official source said.

"Hamid Haqjo, governor of Ishkamish district, was killed in a bomb attack while he was monitoring security checkpoints in surrounding areas of the district at around 7:30 a.m. (local time) Sunday," provincial government spokesman, Sinatullah Timor, told Xinhua.

Three policemen aboard his vehicle were also killed by the explosion in the district, southwestern of provincial capital Taluqan city, the official added.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since mid April when the militant group launched its so-called annual spring offensive in different places of the militancy-plagued Afghanistan which had claimed hundreds of lives including militants, security personnel and civilians.

Furthermore, a senior army official named Colonel Shouhib Bakhshi was killed along with two army personnel after an army convoy was attacked by militants' sniper in Pasaband district of western Ghor province on Saturday evening, provincial police Chief General Ghulam Mustafa Mohsini told Xinhua earlier on Sunday.

The Afghan security forces casualties have risen recently as the United States and NATO troops in Afghanistan have switched from combat to support role, namely training, advising and assisting Afghan forces since January 1 this year. Endi
