China may soon import Namibian beef: ambassador

Xinhua, June 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

China could "very soon" start importing beef from Namibia, Chinese ambassador to Namibia Xin Shunkang said Friday.

A team of Chinese health inspectors has ensured that the meat is safe for trade after their visit to Namibia, Xin said in an interview with Xinhua, as there were concerns over the foot-and- mouth disease.

Chinese people will like Namibian beef as the meat here is very tasty, he said, noting all that remains is signing the final agreements.

Once Namibian beef enters the Chinese market, it may open up opportunities for China to import meat from other southern African nations as certain restrictions could be loosened, the ambassador said. Endi
