Australian woman dies from injuries in gas bottle explosion

Xinhua, June 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

A 37-year old woman who suffered critical injuries from the cafe explosion in Northern Australia has passed away, local media reported Friday.

Nicole Nyholt was one of 20 people injured when a car crashed into a gas cylinder outside a small cafe that triggered a massive fireball in Ravenshoe, southwest of Cairns, shocking Australia on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old caf manager and mother of two was pronounced dead just before 5:00 a.m. local time after suffering burns to 80 percent of her body.

Seven people remain in critical condition.

The 60-year old driver of the car remains in an induced coma in a Cairns hospital with a broken spine and burns to his face, back and body.

It is suspected that the driver had a heart attack, lost control of his car and ploughed into the caf, which triggered the explosion. Endi
