Copenhagen airport sees passenger numbers decline in May

Xinhua, June 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The airport in Denmark's capital city saw its passenger traffic drop by 1.2 percent in May from a year ago, it was reported Thursday.

The number of passengers at Copenhagen Airport in May decreased by some 28,500 to 2.3 million, owing to the lower capacity and load factors at SAS, an airline that accounts for more than 40 percent of traffic at Copenhagen Airport, the airport said in a statement.

While international traffic and European traffic decreased by 3.0 percent and 0.3 percent respectively, domestic traffic at the airport was down by 10.1 percent as several airlines had reduced capacity to a number of destinations.

However, thanks in part to the opening of several new routes, the traffic grew by 22 percent to Milan and by 17.4 percent to London.

London was still ranked as the top destination in May with 196,529 passengers traveling to and from the United Kingdom. Stockholm was the second most popular destination with 132,209 passengers, followed by Oslo with 123,552 passengers.

Meanwhile, year-to-date passenger numbers at the airport were down by 0.2 percent from the same period last year, or by around 16,000 travellers.

Copenhagen Airport is currently the busiest airport in Scandinavia, having served over 25 million passengers in 2014. Endit
