Senior official says China-Myanmar ties face important opportunity

A Senior Chinese official said Thursday that the China-Myanmar relationship has an important opportunity.

State Councilor Yang Jiechi made the remarks when he met with Aung San Suu Kyi, chairperson of Myanmar's National League for Democracy (NLD).

Yang said China is willing to make joint efforts with Myanmar to push forward the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

It is in line with the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, he said.

The Myanmar-China relationship is very important, Suu Kyi said, voicing hope for further enhancing people-to-people exchanges and strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Invited by the Communist Party of China, Suu Kyi is on her first China visit from Wednesday to Sunday. Endi
