Slovakia self-sufficient in electricity production in 2014

Xinhua, June 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovakia was self-sufficient in electricity production in 2014, said a report on Slovakia's security in 2014 approved by the Slovak government on Wednesday.

"The consumption of electricity in 2014 remained steady with a moderate (pro-)import balance between electricity consumption and production," read the report.

Meanwhile, gas consumption has remained flat in recent years.

With domestic gas extraction representing a minute fraction of overall demand, Slovakia's dependency on gas exports still reaches around 98 percent. No total interruption of gas supplies to Slovakia was recorded in 2014.

"Only as of September 2014 did the most significant gas supplier in Slovakia record cuts in daily supplies from Gazprom Export ranging between 8-56 percent. Technical issues and the filling of reservoirs in Russia were stated as the reasons for the cuts," stressed the report.

The report further noted that the Slovak-Ukrainian Vojany-Uzhhorod gas link was launched into commercial operation as of September 2014. This link provides gas transport to Ukraine via the border point of Budince. The transport capacity of this link is 27 million cubic metres per day. Endite
