Indian troops kill over 100 militants in surgical operation inside Myanmar: report

Xinhua, June 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian troops killed over 100 militants in a 45-minute surgical operation inside Myanmar on Tuesday in retaliation against the killing of 18 Indian soldiers by the militants at India-Myanmar border last week, said local daily The Times of India on Wednesday.

Six militants were also injured and have been admitted in a hospital, the report quoted official sources here as saying.

Myanmar has since cordoned off the area where Indian Army undertook operations against insurgents from the northeast region of India.

In another raid on the same day, the Indian army pursued militants into Myanmar and killed 15 insurgents, said the report.

The Myanmar government was informed hours after the commandos in battle fatigues had completed surgical strikes against the militants taking shelter in the neighboring country, said the report.

Earlier reports put the number of militants killed by Indian troops at between 20 and 60.

The militants were believed to have carried out an ambush against Indian troops last Thursday in Manipur state near the India-Myanmar border. Endi
