Barca president Bartomeu confident Luis Enrique will stay

FC Barcelona President, Jose Maria Bartomeu commented on Monday that he wants to extend the contract tying coach Luis Enrique to the club.

Bartomeu was speaking on Catalonya Radio in the wake of the celebrations for the treble of League, Cup and Champions League Barca won during Luis Enrique' s first season in charge.

The only note of discord after Barca had defeated Juventus to win the Champions League on Saturday night came when the coach said he didn' t know whether he would be in charge for next season, despite having another year of his contract to run.

Perhaps one reason for the uncertainty is that Bartomeu will resign in the coming days as the club will hold elections for the Presidency in the coming weeks, but Bartomeu assured that if he wins the election he will offer the coach a new deal.

"I don' t have the slightest doubt regarding Luis Enrique's continuity," he said, explaining that he could not propose a new contract before the vote, although he "would love to."

"This is something that the future president must decide. If it's me, I'll propose a contract extension. I don't know if it'd be the very first thing I'd do, but it would most certainly be one of them," he confirmed.

The President added that Luis Enrique still had a year left on his contract and despite the coach' s ambiguity about the future he declared, "I think he's very happy, both he and all the team." Endi
