EU steps up corporate tax probe in 15 member states

Xinhua, June 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Commission on Monday asked for tax rulings from 15 member states, including euro zone heavyweights Germany, France and Italy, in order to find out whether these member states granted tax advantages to individual companies in breach of EU state aid rules.

The Commission also asked Estonia and Poland to deliver tax rulings practice information requested in December. Otherwise the two states may be referred to the EU Court of Justice.

"We are putting together the puzzle of tax ruling practices in the EU. Sometimes we had to ask member states twice - or more - to provide information," said EU Commissioner in charge of competition policy Margrethe Vestager in an statement.

Since June 2013, the Commission has been investigating the tax ruling practices of member states.

It extended this information inquiry to all member states in December. The Commission said it will also adopt an action plan on June 17 to make corporate taxation fairer, more efficient and more transparent in the EU. Endit
