Cologne extended the contract with midfielder Marcel Risse ahead of schedule, the "Billy Goats" announced on Monday.

The 25-year-old midfielder, whose old contract was stipulated until June 2016, agreed on a contract extension for another three years, which keeps him with the "FC" until June 2019.

"Marcel is since day one an absolute top performer of our team and he still has great potential to develop further. He identifies himself fully with the club, the fans, and the city therefore we are delighted to continue our cooperation," Cologne's manager Joerg Schmadtke said.

Risse joined Cologne from Mainz in the summer 2013 to provide eight assists and 16 goals in overall 65 appearances.

"I feel very comfortable here and I also evolved thanks to the coaching staff and my fellow teammates. I am very happy and grateful helping Cologne to establish in the first division," Risse said.

Cologne earned their promotion for Germany's top flight in the season 2014-2015. They completed the last season on the 12th place to maintain the top flight status. Endi
