FINA women's water polo world league super final to be held in Shanghai

Xinhua, June 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

With the top eight teams from the world, FINA Women's Water Polo World League Super Final 2015 will kick off during June 9 - 14 at the Oriental Sports Center, venue for 2011 FiNA World Championships, in Shanghai.

According to FINA rules, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Netherlands, Italy, Russia, the United States and hosts China qualified for the Super Final out of 16 teams in the World League in 2015.

"All the participating teams will compete in Kazan World Championships in July and try to earn the tickets to Rio Olympic Games. It is a great opportunity for them to get ready for the worlds," said Gianni Lonzi, chairman of FINA Water Polo Technical Committee.

China, who won the Super Final champion in 2013 and silver medals in 2011 World Championships, set a low-key target for the event.

"China only started the sports for 10 years. We are a young team compared with other experienced powerhouses. Our players are very young. We have trained hard and prepared for the Super Final for a long time. I just hope my girls can play their best and gain more experience," said China's head coach Ricardo Azevedo.
