German postmen on indefinite strike from Monday

Xinhua, June 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Postmen and package messengers of Germany's express delivery and mail company Deutsche Post will go on an indefinite strike on Monday afternoon, announced Germany's Ver.di trade union here on Monday.

Deutsche Post has not budged with respect to a settlement of its conflict with the union in the previous six rounds of negotiations, but rather ignored an overall offer submitted by Ver.di, according to Ver.di's deputy chairman and chief negotiator Andrea Kocsis.

"We have to increase the pressure now massively and are calling for the Ver.di members of Deutsche Post to stage an indefinite industrial action from today on," she said.

In a dispute over pay and working hours for around 140,000 employees, the Deutsche Post rejected on Monday Ver.di's proposal of a one-time payment of 500 euros (about 559 U.S. dollars) and a wage increase of 2.7 percent for 2016 for all. Endit
