Gambia's national football team, Scorpions on Sunday arrived in Uganda ahead of an international friendly against the hosts slated for June 9 at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Savoy Raoul, Gambia' s head coach said they are in Uganda to camp for four days and also make use of the build-up match as they prepare for their first game of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier away to South Africa.
The host will also use the game to prepare for their Group D encounter against Botswana on June 13. Comoros and the 2012 Afcon finalists Burkina Faso are the other team in Group D.
"We are not taking the four days camping in Uganda lightly because our team has not been together for some time and we need this to get together. The build-up will actually help the team prepare better ahead of the game against South Africa," he added.
Defender Abdou Jammeh, who turns out for Finnish side, Rovaniemen Palloseura (Rops), Ebrima Sohna, another Finland based player with Kuopion Palloseura and F.C Sion' s Modou Jagne in Sweden are some of the professional players who are part of the Gambia team.
England based professional Mustapha Carayol who features for Middlesbrough and Modou Barrow who plays for Swansea are also expected to join the Gambia squad on Monday.
The Gambia Scorpions have been drawn in Group M of the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers, along with South Africa, Mauritania and former African giants Cameroon. Endi
