Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos will pay a state visit to China on June 8-13 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Born in Luanda, capital city of Angola, in 1942, Dos Santos joined the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in 1961. He served as a vice president of the youth organization with the MPLA and the MPLA's representative to the Republic of Congo.

From 1963 to 1970, Dos Santos pursued academic studies in the discipline of petroleum engineering in the former Soviet Union.

After Angola gained independence in 1975, Dos Santos successively served as a foreign minister, minister of planing, director of the planning commission and first deputy prime minister. He became the MPLA president in September 1979 and has been Angolan president since then.

The Angolan leader paid state visits to China in 1988, 1998 and 2008. He attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Summer Olympics in August 2008. Endi
