Cuban star Yulieski Gourriel excluded

Xinhua, June 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cuban baseball star Yulieski Gourriel was officially separated from the national team to participate at the Pan American Games in Toronto and at the traditional US-Cuba match, both in July, the president of the local federation said .

Heriberto Suarez, baseball national director, said the third baseman Gourriel, currently playing for the Havana Industriales, declined to attend the appointment on May 25 for comprising the island's squad, and has not participated in any of the training sessions, so "he was replaced".

Rudy Reyes, also playing for Industriales, will take Gourriel's position in the Cuban team.

Gourriel had participated in all Cuba's international commitments since his debut in the Pan American Games Santo Domingo-2003. He is the first Cuban player to exceed the figure of 200 runs with only wooden bat.

Gourriel made headlines last April, after the cancellation of his contract for the 2015 season with the Japanese professional club Yokohama DeNA BayStars.

Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) reported then that the end of the agreement occurred after the player did not submit on time to the Japanese club because of injuries. Endi
