Rwanda to host 2016 African World Economic Forum

Xinhua, June 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Rwanda is set to host the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Africa slated for 2016.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Claver Gatete, Rwanda minister of finance and economic planning said that it's an important opportunity for Rwanda to showcase to the world what the country has achieved within a short period of time.

"This is very important because it will provide us with a platform to share our experiences and learn lessons from others on how to advance our economy and build a prosperous Rwanda," he said.

Gatete noted that the forum will be about looking forward and seeing how countries can channel the lessons of the past with the creativity, innovation and resourcefulness for a better future for citizens.

It will be the first time for Rwanda to host a WEF.

Rwanda recorded the fastest growth in Africa between 2000 and 2013, according to the 2014 UN Human Development Report (HDR). Endi
