China vice premier meets Japanese deputy PM

Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli met with Japanese Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso here on Friday.

Zhang said the Chinese side has always attached great importance to China-Japan relations. He said the Chinese side has insisted on advancing bilateral relations on the basis of the four China-Japan political documents and in the spirit of "taking history as a mirror and looking forward to the future".

Chinese and Japanese leaders have met twice since the end of last year as bilateral relations generally improved. Zhang said the two sides should continue to march toward the same goal of improved bilateral relations in a sustained and stable manner.

Zhang said financial cooperation consists an important part of bilateral relations. He called for the two sides to step up practical cooperation in the areas of finance and macro-economic policy so as to advance the strategic and mutually beneficial relations.

Taro Aso said the Japanese side places importance on Japan-China relations, adding that advancing improvement and development of bilateral relations conforms with the interests of both sides. He expressed the readiness to strengthen economic and financial cooperation with China so as to promote stable and sustainable growth of the economy of both countries.

Taro Aso is in Beijing to attend the fifth round of financial ministers dialogue between China and Japan.

The four political documents refer to the China-Japan Joint Statement inked in 1972, the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1978, the China-Japan Joint Declaration of 1998 and a joint statement on advancing strategic and mutually beneficial relations that was signed in 2008. Endi
