Four killed in Nigeria bomb explosion: police

Xinhua, June 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four people were killed on Wednesday in a bomb explosion that rocked a commercial area in Maiduguri, capital of northern Nigeria's restive Borno state, police have said.

Borno State Police Chief, Aderemi Opadokun, said another eight were injured by the explosion, however local people and hospital sources told Xinhua at least 33 others were wounded.

A witness named Haruna Bukar said the bomb was planted under some metals along Baga road, not far from a local gas station.

The blast immediately dispersed the crowd in the area, another witness Musa Abdullahi said.

The attack occurred on the day when President Muhammadu Buhari, who was sworn in on May 29, left Nigeria for a two-day visit to neighboring Niger and Chad, to discuss issues over the fight against the militant group Boko Haram.

Boko Haram, which seeks to establish an Islamic State in Nigeria, has killed over 15,000 people since 2009.

Maiduguri has recorded at least four bomb attacks in the last one week. Endi
