Rafael Benitez gave his first press conference after being presented as the new coach of Real Madrid on Wednesday.
The new coach, who has signed a three year contract, had been visibly emotional during his presentation as he returned to the club where he began his career as first a player and later as a coach after being forced to end his playing career aged just 25.
Now he takes on a job where anything other winning titles will see him lose his job, as happened to his predecessor, Carlo Ancelotti, just 12 months after winning the Champions League.
"From the first moment we have to be at the top and be satisfied from the first game. It is different because the demands in Madrid are very high. Being first is the only thing that has value here. We have to try and win everything we can, bearing in mind the quality of the squad," said Benitez, who accepted the high demands of the position.
"In football these days, it is usual that everyone is in a hurry to achieve their objectives," he said.
The 55-year-old was delighted to return to what he considers to be his home.
"It is a special day for me and I have a lot of expectations. I have been working for a long time and to be able to return here was one of my objectives," he said.
Although he was unwilling to go into details of his plans for the squad and the style of play he wants, Bentiez was clear he would be a demanding boss.
"My aim is to enjoy a great team and not to look at individual aspects for the moment. We have a great side," he said content with the players he has inherited.
"This is the best squad I have worked with," he said, adding his side would, "give priority to the ball," while in turn would speak "with the players to know the way they feel. That is what has brought me here."
"We have a great squad and great players and rather talk about systems we have to be able to compete. With this sort of team, you have to attack and to score goals, but above all compete," he concluded. Endite
