Singapore to distribute 1.2 mln funpacks for golden jubilee

Xinhua, June 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

A total of 1.2 million SG funpacks will be distributed to every Singaporean and Permanent Resident (PR) household in July as one of the engagement efforts to celebrate Singapore's golden jubilee, said the National Day Parade (NDP) 2015 Executive Committee on Wednesday.

"This is the year of our golden jubilee, we want something special to be able to connect all Singaporeans to our golden jubilee, and it's for this reason that we decided to give one funpack to every Singapore household. This funpack will contain not just everyday contents, but will contain memories." said Colonel Frederick Choo, Chairman of the Engagement, Celebrations and Mobile Column Committee.

The NDP Executive Committee is working with the People's Association to distribute the SG funpacks. Items in the funpack include those that are "reminiscent of the early years" such as a collectible Singa Lion figure and snacks like haw flakes. Colonel Frederick Choo said they hope the nostalgic items can evoke stories.

"We hope the seniors in the family will be able to tell stories for the younger ones. Through this bring the family together and celebrate our golden jubilee together." said Choo.

Besides, spectators at the scene of National Day Parade will receive the NDP funpack, which will include interactive items and additional food and drinks.

To celebrate the 50th birthday of Singapore, the funpacks come in 50 different designs, each designed by Singaporeans from all walks of life.

Slated to be on August 9, the National Day Parade calls for Singaporeans to remember the journey of the past 50 years, celebrate the progress made Singapore a nation and look onwards to the future with optimism and purpose. Various initiatives have been organized to engage and connect with Singaporeans. Endi
