Xinhua, June 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

About 28 militants have been killed in fresh military operations across Afghanistan, said the country' s Defense Ministry on Wednesday.

"A total of 28 armed militants have been killed, 27 wounded and two others arrested as Afghan army carried out cleanup operations in different places of the country within the last 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The army personnel have seized weapons and defused several roadside bombs and landmines planted by militants during the raids, according to the statement.

The statement also confirmed losing three army soldiers as a result of landmine blasts and clashes with the militants over the same period.

The Taliban militants have yet to make comments.

The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Security forces have pressed on to clear the militants in restive provinces.

Afghan security forces have assumed the full security charges from NATO and U.S. forces after the NATO-led troops have switched from combat to support role since Jan. 1. Endi
