Sudan's Bashir sworn in for new presidential term

Elected Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Tuesday took the constitutional oath before the National Legislative Council for a new five-year presidential term.
Al-Bashir vowed to be faithful and honest in performing his duties, abide by the law and the constitution, defend Sudan and protect its territories, lay down the bases of democratic rule and preserve the unity of Sudan.
The president's inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of regional African and Arab leaders. Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy, Environmental Protection Minister Chen Jining, also participated in the event.
Al-Bashir, who is the chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), achieved a landslide victory in the presidential polls in April, obtaining 94.5 percent of the votes.
His party won the largest number of votes in the legislative elections to enjoy the majority of the seats in the National Assembly (parliament). Endit
