Chinese shares closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.69 percent to finish at 4,910.53 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 3.36 percent to close at 17,485.58 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 4.92 percent to end at 3,901.54 points.

Total turnover on the two bourses expanded to 1.97 trillion yuan (322.37 billion U.S. dollars) from the previous trading day. About 430 shares rose by the daily limit of 10 percent.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index soared 4.71 percent on Monday after sharp rises and falls last week. On May 28, the index dived 6.5 percent to finish at 4,620.27 points, after closing at a fresh seven-year high the previous day. Endi
