42 charged in Bangladesh's worst-ever industrial tragedy

Two years after the country's worst- ever industrial tragedy that claimed 1,137 lives and injured scores, Bangladesh police have submitted charge-sheets against 42 people including building owner Sohel Rana.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police submitted the charge-sheets in two separate cases to court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate on Monday.

Bijoy Krishna Kar, CID assistant superintendent, submitted the charge-sheets before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dhaka in the cases one filed for killing the people while another for violating building code.

Some 750 people are being made witnesses in both cases.

Of the accused, all but four people, inducing Sohel Rana, were granted bail and are now staying outside the jail.

The nine-storey building, Rana Plaza, crumbled like a pack of cards on April 24, 2013. Six out of its total nine floors were housed with different units of garment factories in which some 2, 438 workers were rescued alive from the rubble. Endi
