U.S. defense chief to visit India

The United States Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter will visit India on Tuesday, the first of his visit to the country as secretary of defense, said official sources here Monday.

Both sides will renew the Defense Framework Agreement for another 10 years and boost cooperation in carrier and jet engine technology, said the sources.

The defense framework agreement was first signed in 2005 during a visit by former U.S. President George W. Bush to New Delhi.

Apart from New Delhi where he will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrika, Carter will visit Vizag navy base in Andhra Pradesh facing the Bay of Bengal, where the Eastern Naval Command of Indian Navy is based.

He is also expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. Endi
