Nikkei gains for 12th straight day on strong domestic outlook

Tokyo stocks closed 0.03 percent higher on Monday, marking the 12th straight trading day of expansion, as optimism over Japan's economic outlook won over concerns about overseas markets.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 6.72 points, from Friday's 20,569.87, a fresh 15-year closing high. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 4.91 points, or 0.29 percent, to 1,678.56.

Major gainers included financing, utilities, and fishery and agriculture issues.

The turnover was 2,534.02 billion yen (about 20.42 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
