Xinhua, June 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Former Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Sunday founded a new political party aiming to compete in the upcoming parliamentary elections, which probably take place at the beginning of 2016.

On the founding assembly of the new party, named "Go Ahead Croatia-Progressive Alliance", Josipovic was elected as the president of the party. Josip Kregar, an independent member in the Croatian Parliament, was elected as its vice president.

Josipovic said that his party will be positioned as centre-left party and will encourage entrepreneurship and strong decentralization of the country.

Josipovic used to be an official of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Upon his election as the third Croatian President in 2010, he suspended his SDP membership, as required by the Constitution.

He lost in the second round of presidential election in January 2015. Endit
