Rain halts play at Roland Garros

Xinhua, May 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Local favorite Alize Cornet's first last 16 showdown at Roland Garros against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina on Court Philippe Chatrier has been halted for more than two hours due to rain on Sunday.

The French top-rated female player was trailing 3-0 with Svitolina having a game point to extend her lead when it began to rain.

All play on 16 courts has been suspended as former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic was also stopped while leading 3-2 against Russian ninth seed Ekaterina Makarova.

According to the daily schedule, world No. 2 Roger Federer will take on Gael Monfils, one of five Frenchmen through to the last 16, at the third match on the central court, while women's defending champion Maria Sharapova sets to face No. 13 seed Lucie Safarova on Court Suzanne Lenglen. Endi
