India test-fires Pinaka II rocket

Xinhua, May 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

India successfully test-fired its home-made Pinaka-II rocket from a military base near Pokhran in the western state of Rajasthan late Saturday, sources said on Sunday.

"The rocket was test-fired in the Indian Army's Chandan firing range near the international border with Pakistan. It successfully hit the target some 55 km from the firing point," the sources said.

The rocket system, developed by the state-owned Defense Research and Development Organization and the Indian Army, can incorporate several kinds of warheads, the sources said.

Pinaka-II is the advanced version of Pinaka-I that is already introduced to the Indian Army and tested during the 1998 Kargil War, one of three major wars fought between India and Pakistan in the past 60 years. Endi
