UAE, Malaysian FMs discuss regional, global issues

Xinhua, May 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan met here Saturday with his Malaysian counterpart Anifah Aman at the UAE's ministry of foreign affairs, state news agency WAM reported.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the relations between the UAE and Malaysia and ways of supporting and promoting these relations to serve the common interests of the two countries. Both countries are pillars in the global Islamic finance industry.

The UAE foreign minister said his country will support Malaysia's efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees who reached Malaysia by boats after fleeing their home country Myanmar.

A crackdown on human trafficking was launched in Thailand after dozens of bodies of deceased Rohingya migrants from Myanmar have been exhumed from graves found in Thailand's side of the border in recent weeks.

Malaysia and Indonesia have later agreed to take on 7,000 Bangladesh migrants and Myanmar's Rohingya refugees pending their repatriation.

On his part, the Malaysian foreign minister expressed appreciation for the UAE's notable regional stature. Endit
