The UN Security Council on Friday slammed two attacks against peacekeepers in Mali earlier this week, urging the Malian government to swiftly probe them.
The 15-member UN body said in a statement that it "deplored" the deadly shooting in Bamako, Mali, Monday which killed a Bangladeshi peacekeeper and injured another.
Three other peacekeepers, from the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) , were injured in Timbuktu Thursday, when their convoy hit a landmine. The attack was strongly condemned by the council.
The council "called on the Government of Mali to swiftly investigate these attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice," stressing that those responsible for the attack should be held accountable and attacks targeting peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law.
The Council also urged all parties in Mali to cooperate fully with the deployment and activities of MINUSMA in the statement.
With more than 40 peacekeepers killed since its inception in 2013, the 11,000-strong MINUSMA is considered the most dangerous UN mission in the world. Endite
