A survey published on Friday by the European Commission showed that among e-cigarettes users, only 14 percent were able to stop smoking, indicating that e-cigarettes are not particularly effective as a quitting tool.
The survey by Eurobarometer was published ahead of World No Tobacco Day on Sunday, and reveals a downward trend in tobacco use across Europe.
The Eurobarometer reveals some interesting figures on e-cigarettes, a relatively new product. While 12 percent of Europeans have tried e-cigarettes, 2 percent are currently using them. These numbers have significantly increased since 2012.
Younger Europeans are more likely to have tried them. While 67 percent of Europeans are most likely to start using e-cigarettes in order to reduce or stop smoking, just 21 percent of smokers were able to cut down with these products and only 14 percent were able to stop smoking.
With the above figures, the survey said that e-cigarettes are not particularly effective as a quitting tool. Endit
