The newly-created presidential email of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi received 8,000 messages from in 24 hours, state-run Ahram news website reported on Thursday.

The new presidential email (media.office8@op.gov.eg) announced by the presidency on Tuesday is meant for Sisi to communicate personally with the Egyptian citizens and address their inquiries, concerns and recommendations.

Among the 8,000 messages, some 50 percent are complaints, 20 percent suggestions and 26 percent praise, it said.

"President Sisi will answer a group of these inquiries during his monthly speech," said the presidency while announcing creating the email, stressing Sisi believed that "transparency and popular participation in decision-making represent the most important way in the development course Egypt is going through."

As then-military chief, Sisi led the removal of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against Morsi and his currently-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

Enjoying massive popularity, President Sisi came to office in mid-2014 after scoring a landslide victory over his leftist opponent Hamdeen Sabahy. Enditem
